"Americans dislike bullies and President Trump is acting like a bully" against the judiciary, Blumenthal told MSNBC after Trump said in a Twitter post that the Connecticut Democrat misrepresented what Gorsuch said during their meeting. "And I believe Judge Gorsuch, more than just saying it behind closed doors, needs to publicly condemn" Trump's comments. Blumenthal said on MSNBC Gorsuch told him that "you should feel free to mention" publicly Gorsuch's critiques of Trump's attacks on the independent courts. Trump urged the Senate to confirm Gorsuch at a White House listening session Thursday attended by about 10 Republican and Democratic senators. "I absolutely accurately stated what Judge Gorsuch said to me, as confirmed by his own spokesman, colleagues who heard the same thing in their private meetings," Blumenthal told CNN.

President Trump attacked Sen. Richard Blumenthal in a tweet early Thursday, following the Connecticut Democrat's remarks about his meeting with Judge Neil Gorsuch, Mr. Trump's pick to be a Supreme Court justice. Sen.Richard Blumenthal, who never fought in Vietnam when he said for years he had (major lie),now misrepresents what Judge Gorsuch told him? The Nebraska Republican said that in his own talk with the conservative judge, Gorsuch had said that any attack on any "brothers or sisters of the robe" is an attack on all judges. The president accused Blumenthal of "misrepresenting" Gorsuch's comments, after the senator reported that the conservative judge had expressed disappointment over Mr. Trump's latest comments about the court system. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Missouri, also told reporters that Gorsuch seemed to believe it was "inappropriate" to question the political motives of the courts.
