Donald Trump has offered former Jon Huntsman, a former presidential candidate, the position as US ambassador to Russia, a high-profile and sensitive post amid investigations into the contacts between Russian officials and the Trump campaign. The president made the offer to Mr Huntsman earlier this week, a White House official told the Associated Press, despite public clashes between the pair in the past. Mr Huntsman has indicated he will accept the post, the official said on Wednesday. Mr Huntsman has twice before served as an ambassador. Bush and then served in that role in China under President Barack Obama.
