What's to stop him from trying the same thing again and firing Mueller? This would make firing Mueller even more an example of obstruction of justice than firing Comey. But that only means something if Congress is willing to call Donald Trump's bluff should he pull the trigger on a Mueller firing. So imagine my surprise that after the indictments came through, so did Senate Republicans. Senate Republicans sent a clear and immediate message in the wake of Mueller's announcement: Don't fire Bob Mueller.

US President Donald Trump has claimed he does not need to fill vacant government posts because he is "the only one that matters". Addressing the situation on Thursday, Mr Trump said: "We don't need all the people that they want. Mr Trump made his comments in a Thursday night interview with Fox News, on the eve of his first diplomatic trip to Asia. Asked whether Mr Tillerson would be with the administration for the remainder of the presidency, Mr Trump replied: "We'll see. Mr Tillerson will not be accompanying Mr Trump on his 12-day tour through Asia, which will bring him to Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
