Donald Trump still has not earned the right to address the Houses of Parliament, Commons Speaker John Bercow has said. A year on from Mr Trump's election victory Mr Bercow said his view remained that Mr Trump did not deserve the honour of speaking to MPs and peers in the historic hall. The row began in February when Mr Bercow said he "strongly opposed" the idea of a presidential address in Parliament. But he said he had been reacting to suggestions which "seemed to be emanating from government" that Mr Trump should follow in Mr Obama's footsteps and speak in Westminster Hall. Defending his intervention, Mr Bercow noted he had been given a say in who should be invited to speak.

US President Donald Trump would expect Senate candidate Roy Moore to withdraw from an upcoming vote if allegations that he had a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl were true, the White House said on Friday. Roy Moore, a 70-year-old judge, is hoping to take the seat vacated by Jeff Sessions, the attorney general. Mr Moore was backed by Steve Bannon, President Donald Trump's former chief strategist, and joined on the campaign trail by Nigel Farage. Mr Trump and the Republican establishment preferred his rival, Luther Strange. A defiant Mr Moore emailed his supporters hours after the accusations were made and wrote: "I refuse to stand down."
